How long have you been Swimming, and how did you start?
I started swimming for fun when I was three years old. I started competitive swimming when I was eight years old. My mom believed it was the perfect sport because it was not too dangerous.
How often do you practice swimming?
I usually practice for about five hours daily, before and after school. I currently swim for a private club and for my city, Bogota, in Columbia. I participate in about two or three competitions a month.
What is your favorite part about swimming?
My favorite part about swimming is that when I am in the water, I feel like a beast and that I can do anything. Being in the water also makes me feel calm.
What is your preferred swimming stroke, and why? Do you have a specific event or stroke you excel in?
I love freestyle, backstroke, and butterfly. However, my favorite is breaststroke.

100-meter backstroke – 1 min 10 seconds
How do you balance your training schedule with other commitments, such as school?
I train for two hours in the morning and four hours after school. I am thankful to my school and teachers for working with me. I attend a school of all athletes, so my school understands how busy we can all get. I am also very disciplined and organized with the help of my mom.
Can you describe a memorable race or competition that stands out in your career?
My most memorable race was a five-day competition in Cali a year ago in July. I won a gold medal in the 15-meter backstroke. My coach and mom were very happy for me.
In swimming, technique is crucial. How do you improve your swimming technique, and do you have any specific drills or exercises you do?
My coach gives me a lot of exercises to work on in the water. I also make sure to practice my technique in the gym.
How do you stay motivated and disciplined in your training routine?
My motivation is my mom. She gives me unconditional support and consistently offers the motivation to be disciplined. She helps me stay organized and balanced, and when I have a bad day, she helps me think about the good days.
